And people wonder why the rest of the world hates us

Well, Honjo is here (the school, not the entire city), and so of course today, we had the big welcoming chapel. (Which I missed, because my stupid orchestra teacher made me have my lesson during chapel.) But I heard about it later, which was enough to make me cringe. Like last year, they gave us multiple gifts, very nice, authentic Japanese things. Only slightly better than last year, we gave them one crumby clay pot. How exciting. Oh, and to make things better, afterwords, we were sitting at lunch, and Tim comes and sits down and says he just found out that apparently, it offends Japanese people to rip wrapping. On reflection, Mr. Johnson tore the paper off their gift, and they nicely opened the package without tearing the paper at all, and then folded it up after. Wow, are americans good at offending people.

Oh, and during history, before chapel, we were doing an in class essay, comparing ancient civilizations. VP decided in class which two civilizations to compare, and we were all telling her which we thought we should do, not that she paid any attention to us. The biggest thing was China, which about half the class really wanted to do, and the other half really didn't want to compare. We ended up not usin China, and we got to work. Sometime while we were working on this, Mr. Carlson was showing the people from Honjo around the school, and they were walking past the open door to our class room. At this point, Hannah said "see, I told you we should have done China, then the people from Honjo would see that when they walk past." So I had to turn to her and say no Hannah, they're from Japan, not China.

Well, on the up side, we had lots to talk about during lunch, because everyone was complaining about them. And we got first lunch today! That made me very happy. Anyway, so Elise, Eric, Tim, Will and I spent lunch complaining about stupid teachers. There are way too many of them at this school.

oh...my...we gave them a single clay pot? Well, it's an improvement over last year's plastic flags, but still. You'd think they'd have learned.
